Ch. 14 – See the lights, the northern lights

We started packing for our trip to Iceland, getting camera gear packed back up in the hard sided cases.  Tuesday I called the RV place and we went to see the progress on the bedroom.  They had gotten the old bed base out, had moved the water tank and were building the new bases.  I had the new mattresses shipped directly there, because why waste the time getting them at my house, the having to load them into the RV.  I got the Fiat to my mechanic for it’s maintenance and checked on the status of the package I shipped to our hotel in Iceland.

Tuesday night we had all the bags in the living room ready to go, along with all our papers.  We got to bed early as we had a 7 AM flight.  I remember going to bed, but the next thing I remember was getting woke up and out of bed.  I was barely awake when I sat down at the table and got a bowl of cereal put in front of me and a cup of coffee.  I glanced at my watch and it was 3:00 AM.

“Ugh! it is too early for this” I whined

“I know buddy but we have to load the car, drive to the airport, get checked in and get through security. Then you can take a nap while we wait, and fly.  I groggily ate my cereal, drank my coffee, and then used the potty to move my bowels before being re-diapered.  I was then dressed and then we loaded the cobalt up, as it had more room.  Locked up the house, set the alarm and Max drove us to the airport.

We got the car checked into the parking lot, loaded all the luggage onto the shuttle, checked the luggage at the curb, then the fun began.

Somebody dressed me in a onesie with metal snaps, so not only did I set off the body scanner and metal detector, but I got searched too.  I had to go behind this partition and take my pj bottoms off, and strip to just my onesie; the TSA agent raised his eyebrows when I ended up with my pants around my ankles and in just a diaper.  He then used the hand held wand to see that it was just the snaps in my onesie and I was allowed to get re-dressed.

“You!!, I’m gonna get you!!” I said with pointed fingers at Max, who just laughed at my predicament.

“But it was so funny” He said

We found our gate and had an hour to spare before the plane arrived. Max had found a place that had drinks and snacks, so he went and got something to eat and bring with us.  He came back with a bottle of water and a bottle of apple juice as well.  He reached into my backpack and pulled my sipper cup out and mixed the water and apple juice together, and I sat there like a good boy and drank my drink; when I wasn’t trying to get back to sleep.

We heard the boarding call for our flight to JFK and grabbed our stuff.  A gate agent walked up to us and said “Those with handicapped or small children can go ahead and board, so you two can go ahead and get situated on board.”

I was kind of taken aback, but Max just went along with it, grabbed my sippy cup and put it in the pocket on my backpack and took my hand as we boarded the plane. We found a seat and max got our carry-ons in the bin while I got comfy in my seat and got my iPad out.

The flight was pretty uneventful, I used my iPad and headphones to play games and watch some videos, falling asleep part way through the flight.

We were probably 20 minutes prior to landing when I woke up and noticed that my diaper was very soggy.  I must have over did it on liquids.  “I need changed when we get off the plane” I whispered to Max.

“Ok buddy, daddy will get you taken care of when we land” he said

Probably about 5 minutes before landing I felt the rumble in my stomach.  Now I REALLY did not want to do that, I held out until we landed, and then we got stuck on the taxiway waiting for other planes to get cleared for the gate.

Max could see I was in distress, and I’m pretty sure he knew why too.  “I’ll take care of it no matter what”

I held it in until we got to the gate but as I stood up it slipped out and all inside the back of my diaper.  I was so embarrassed, but Max was just comforting telling me ‘it’s ok, that’s why you have one on’

As we walked out of the plane others noticed the smell starting to waft from me. One lady said “smells like somebody needs a change” as she passed me.

We asked a gate agent where the bathrooms were, and she pointed to a family bathroom.  Max took my hand as we walked towards the family bathroom, dragging our luggage in tow.  He opened the door and we walked in.

This place was amazing, it had a large lobby type room, and then two private rooms that were for families.  Inside the smaller room was a large changing table, big enough for a big adult, so plenty sturdy for my small 5’4 145lbs frame.  Max made very quick work of getting me undressed and stripping the filthy diaper off and cleaning me up.  Before he rediapered me, I was made to sit on the potty for 5 minutes to see if I still needed to poop more, which I didn’t.  He then had me hop back on the table before he  re-diapered me thickly.

He told me to sit on the edge of the table while he went potty and then we washed our hands before exiting the stall to see several other parents waiting to get in there.  Some with actual babies, toddlers, and a few with older normal looking kids.

We walked out and found our next gate.  We had a 3 hour layover before a 6 hour flight.  With nothing else to do I popped my earbuds in and put on some calming music, blew up my neck pillow and used my coat as a cover and fell asleep.

Probably 30 minutes before the flight I was jostled awake by Max who said I needed to go to the bathroom before the flight.  He grabbed my diaper bag and left the luggage sitting there where a mom and her two kids were seated and said they would watch them while we were gone.  I was changed into a thick diaper with stuffer, since my other one was quite sodden, and it was going to be a long flight.

We got back to the gate right as the plane pulled up and disembarked it’s current passengers. Again we were told we could get on with the handicapped and children.  Found a seat and I drank some more juice from my sippy cup before getting my iPad out again.  I was awake long enough to hear the safety instructions and then I was dozing off again.  I awoke a couple times, and found Max asleep as well.  On the third time Max was up and typing away on his iPad and quietly conversing to the person across the aisle.

“Yeah, just like a toddler, he is so precious.  Oh hey buddy, did you have a nice nap?” Max said as he noticed me awake.

I shook my head yes and said hello.  We had about 45 minutes to land and we would be in Reykjavík Iceland.  Luckily I was only wet, and no urge to poop this flight.  Once we landed, Max got our carry-ons out of the overhead bin, and we headed to baggage claim.  I had wanted to get a diaper change prior to customs, but there are no bathrooms until after. To keep people from ditching contraband.

As we walked through customs, of course I got flagged with the obvious bulge in my pants.  They asked what it was, and I told them it was an adult diaper, and I needed to change after the flight.  We got pulled into a back screening room, where they searched my bags and had me remove my pants and onsie to see that it was in fact a diaper.  They were nice enough to point me to a bathroom and advised I could change, and that the room was under CCTV monitoring, so if I was concealing anything they would see.  I went in alone and changed into a plain white diaper that I had in my diaper bag and left the other one in there.

A big burly Icelandic border patrol agent came up to me when we exited and said he was the supervisor “I apologize that they made you do that in there.  There is no sense in that, so sorry”.

We cleared customs and got the address out for the hotel and tour company that we were with, they were waiting for us to take us to the hotel.  By now it was going on 8:00 at night, the weather was great for viewing the northern lights.  We rushed to the hotel, got a quick bite to eat, and were back in the lobby at 10:45 PM to head out to see the northern lights.  We travelled for about 45 minutes out of the city where there was no light pollution, but boy was it cold.  I had my camera case along with my tripod.  I found a good spot, setup the tripod, got the camera out and setup.  They had a little shack with a wood stove that we could warm up in, and I ran in there a few times when Max would come out and get me.  We were out there for about 4 hours and as we got back to the hotel the sun was about to come up in an hour.

The front desk welcomed us back with hot cocoa and warm sandwiches.  We trudged up to our room, I got my MacBook out and on the WiFi and started uploading the photos to my storage.  Then it was a quick diaper change and I was out.

The next day we basically slept in until about 1:00 PM before venturing down to the lobby and out onto the street.  We got some local food from a local place and it was fish and very very good.  Then we just had to go to the Icelandic phallological  museum, it’s a penis museum. We ended up just walking around and looking at the shops and such, rode the local mass transit and shopped some more.

We went out again to another place to view the northern lights again, this time I setup and did a time lapse for the 3 hours we were out there, I set the camera up to do it and stayed in the warmth of the shack unless I had to change a battery out.

On the 5th evening we again packed up and headed back to the airport. Max had thickly diapered me up for the flight and I was attired in a printed onesie and my light track pants for the flight.  We landed at JFK at 6:00 AM, just in time to get my diaper changed, and check in for a flight back to Ohio.

We were back in ohio on Monday by 10:00 AM and back home by Noon. I did the driving home, and as we pulled into the driveway the RV was back and powered up next to the garage.  We both drug our luggage into the house and crashed.  I think we woke up around 7 PM and decided to just get pizza and wings delivered.  I was so tired from all the traveling that I did not even care that I answered the door in nothing but a onesie and a diaper.  We ate and then worked a bit on the blog and photos & video and then went back to bed.

My mom came over the next morning to feed the cat, forgetting that we were home (or maybe she was just being nosy), and brought some home made banana bread for us.

“Did you have a nice time?”

“We did and thank you for coming to feed Zorro and for the bread” I said

“Where too next? And when?” She asked

“Probably some place warm!” Max said

“Yeah probably in a week or two, and yes somewhere warm. Still discussing the specifics.” I said
