Ch. 8 – Your parents are always going to be your parents

I had been talking with my parents, yes both of them for the last month about maybe meeting up somewhere along the way.  My mom had always talked about wanting to see New Orleans, so I had offered to get them a vacation to New Orleans.  It was labor day weekend coming up, so dad was able to take the time.

I made it clear that if there was any drama that I would leave and things would go back to the way they were with us barely speaking.

I had arrived on Thursday evening to the Campground that I reserved.  I had asked my parents if they would rather be put up in a hotel or camp out in a cabin at a campground.  They said a campground was OK.  I had arranged to rent a cabin where I could also park my rig at.  They were set to fly in Friday afternoon.  I rented a nice SUV to take us around in as well, as nobody else would be comfy in the Fiat.

I had told them that I got cheap coach seats on the airplane, when in fact I had upgraded them to First Class.  About 90 minutes before their flight would land, I headed up to the airport to pick them up.  I decided to dress somewhat normal.  I wore some blue jean shorts and a Polo with a onsie underneath; of course I was diapered, at this point I really couldn’t go without them.

I parked the SUV and went inside to wait for them.  My dad was the first person I seen, pushing the luggage cart, as I raised my hands and waived.  Then my mom saw me and yelled out “Hey Honey!!” and started walking a little quicker, to an almost run.

“It’s so nice to see you” she said as she hugged me tight, not missing a chance to pat my diapered butt.

“Hey dad, how was the flight?”  I asked

“It was great, but you shouldn’t have spent that money for first class, your mom and I would have been fine in the cheap seats.” He said

“Speak for yourself Tim” My mom quipped in

“Should we go?” I asked

“Yep, lead the way” My dad said as he pushed the luggage cart out.

“Wait here and I’ll go get the car” I said as I ran ahead to go fetch the car from the parking lot.  I came back and helped them load their suitcases into the back of the SUV

“Nice SUV” My dad said  “You’ve always been into small cars”

“This is just a rental, I can’t tow something like this behind the RV in the places I have been. Trust me, you wouldn’t like the space in my car”

“So, I’ve seen your videos.  You go out dressed like that in public?” My dad said as we inched our way out of the city towards the campground.

“Yes, I am basically a 4 year old who isn’t potty trained at heart.  It is truly who I feel the most comfortable as”  I said confident in who I am

“Whatever makes you happy, and as long as your videos are true, you look really happy son.  Just please be safe and don’t do anything stupid like get caught up with some young kid.” He said, my dad always being on the clueless to dense side.

“Tim, it is nothing like that, like I told you he likes to be a kid, not do stuff with actual kids.  He’s not hurting anybody” My mom said

We quickly got on the subject of how much I won, to which I replied that I was able to be comfortable and support what I wanted to do.

“It was nice of your friend James to come take us to the airport and handle everything” My mom said

“Yes, he is a great assistant, like my own travel agent and butler and gopher all in one.  I simply would not be able to get some things done without some boots on the ground like him” I said

We turned into the campground, which looked more like a resort and ambled back to the cabin. I helped them unload their luggage and showed them around.

“Aww look at the little cute minion car” My mom said seeing the Fiat parked in front of the RV

“Yeah good thing you rented an SUV, that is tiny.  Is it a good car?” Dad asked

“Yeah, I got a good deal on it, paid cash for it, well put in on my Amex.  I put new tires and brakes on it, just for good measure too.  I’ve put maybe 400 miles on it driving, and it tows good flat.  I think I put gas in it when I bought it, and maybe topped it off once, and that is it for the last month.  Only scary things is when towing through Yellowstone and the Rockies.  You have to be so careful with the length on some of those hairpin curves.  When I went through the Rockies, I dropped it at a ranger station for the day when I went to the other side of the park for a night.” I said

“Wouldn’t something like a light motorcycle or those scooters be better?” Dad asked

“I had one, and it was limiting, couldn’t carry anything with me, and I almost hit a deer one night and laid it down.  I got rid of it.” I said

“Bet that was scary” Dad said to which I nodded

“Yeah, good thing I was diapered, first ya say it then ya do it” I said.  “That was the end of the cycle”

“OK, We can either hang out here and you can relax and catch up, or we can head out to see some sights?  We have this place the whole weekend. I have steaks, burgers, chicken, and chops in the freezer here, some beer, and a nice selection of liquor in my RV.” I said, hoping they would want to stay here and catch up.

We ended up grilling steaks and some of the chicken and talking out on the porch.

“So son, I can’t undo the things I said and did to you that night, but I want to make amends.  What I said and did there was no excuse for and I am truly sorry about it, I’ve been sorry about it for a while now, but just hadn’t had the chance to say it.  I love you and just want you to be happy with whatever you do and whoever you are with” My dad said as he reached his hand over to mine, with almost tears in his eyes.  Of course I was crying.

“I forgive you, I know you just didn’t understand, really I didn’t understand who I was until several years ago either” I said

“So where are you off to next?” My mom asked.

“Well I am looking at the gulf coast, down to Florida, probably hit Disney and Universal, then not sure.  I really don’t plan much more than a week or two ahead… I have a general major destination and then I just kinda fill in the rest.  Like this past week I had just left Branson, then over to Memphis and then down to here.  I got in yesterday morning.  I typically arrive in the afternoons, check in to a rv park, or campground and then plan out what I want to do the next day, do it, and then spend that night editing and the next day travelling a couple hundred miles or such and rinse lather repeat again. “ I said

“That has to not be that fun, sounds like a lot of work to me, sounds like you’d be burnt out by now?” My dad said

“Yeah it does get to become work, which I am not about.  So I will take a couple days in a location.  I also have to stop and let packages and mail catch up, get groceries, and other supplies.” I said

“So you are stopping and relaxing, right.  What fun is a vacation if you are too busy to enjoy it” My Mom said

“Oh yes I am taking my time.  For instance I spent almost 3 weeks in Yellowstone, Glacier and the Tetons, I’d either go out before sunrise, setup the cameras to do a time lapse and watch the sunrise, and then be back at the RV by noon to sleep until the evening, and then maybe the next day sleep until noon and get into the park in time to shoot the sunset and night time, then the next day sleep all day or stay in the RV.  Then I may go out the middle of the day.  I try not to be constantly busy.  I also moved to 3 different campgrounds during that time.

One day in Branson, I got back to back train excursions, one trip went south of their depot and back, and the next went north of the depot and back.  Spent the whole day seeing the sights and returned back to the RV and watched TV that night.”

“You need a longer break than a few days” My dad said

“I am thinking about once I reach Orlando,  going down to the Keys and then getting on a cruise ship for a bit to relax.  Not sure how long” I said as I got up and felt the weight of my diaper “Be right back”  as I headed to my RV and got my diaper changed.  Since it was getting late I decided to just get down to a printed onsie and a pair of athletic shorts.  I had brought my laptop with me.

“All better now” My dad said, knowing he was inquiring about my clothing

“Yep” I said

We ended up going inside where I hooked up the laptop and showed some of the photos and videos that don’t make it to the online videos.

The next morning, I cooked breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast before we set out to hit the town.  We took a carriage tour of New Orleans, ate beignets at the Café Du Monde, went to the French market.

We ended the night at Bourbon Street, where dad and me might have gotten a little tipsy.  Mom had said she would be the designated driver as long as I put the campground in the GPS.

I don’t remember a whole lot about the ride home, but I kinda sorta remember getting a diaper change; which I am certain of, because I remember I was wearing a Peek-A-Bu diaper and woke up in a soaked lil paws.

I looked at my watch and it was noon, “crap I slept in late” as I got up and threw some clothes on and stumbled to the living room in the RV to find the coffee maker was on with a pot of coffee and a bottle of aspirin and water next to it.

There was a note as well:

Somebody was pretty lit last night in addition to super soggy,
mommy got you taken care of.
Take 2 aspirin and drink the whole bottle of water,
get some coffee and come next door.

“Well this is going to be awkward” I mumbled as I opened up the water and aspirin and took two and slammed back the water.  God I was thirsty.  I then grabbed a travel mug and made a cup of black coffee, fed the cat and slowly opened the door and stepped out into the sunshine.

I slowly made my way to the cabin to find mom and dad sitting on the porch.

“Well look who decided to join the world!” My dad said

“What the hell did I drink, my whole head feels like it’s going to explode” I softly said

My mom was just smirking “I think you tried everything once or twice last night.  You were three sheets to the wind by the time we got back to the car.  It’s a good thing you have keyless entry for your RV, as you could not figure out what key was what, nor the code for the door.”

Which brought us to the next subject.. “Uh, thanks for getting me to bed” I said as I blushed

“Well I didn’t have much of a choice, I couldn’t leave you that way.  You had already leaked on your jeans before we got to the car.  I went through your bag and found a changing pad and protected the seats.  Then when we got back here you were out of it, we had to practically carry you to your RV.”

“I am so sorry about that, embarrassed.  Trust me I don’t ever drink that much, usually one drink in the evening and that is it.” I said obviously embarrassed.

“It’s ok, I know you probably don’t drink that much and those drinks were pretty strong”  My mom said trying to make me feel better.  “Now, do you want some eggs or how about some toast to see that your stomach can handle”

“Let’s start with toast and work our way up to eggs” I said as I stumbled inside and made some toast and scrambled an egg.

I returned to the porch with my eggs, toast and coffee.

“So what do you have planned for today” My dad asked

“Really nothing, I thought I’d leave it up to you two, there are several museums,  and tours to do, whatever you want.” I said as I scarfed down the toast and eggs

I finished my breakfast and quickly showered in the RV and was ready to go.  We hit a couple museums and some more shops in the French Quarter.  We did not get drunk though.

That night my dad insisted on cooking out, and we sat around the campfire a bit.  I can clearly say we both mended fences that evening.  He saw what I had accomplished, saw how life for me was and will always be different and we bonded.  The next afternoon I helped them pack up for their morning flight.

“So the whole diapers and toddler thing, is that what really makes you happy?  I mean it’s certainly not something I’ve ever heard of before” Dad asked

“Yes, it’s just something that really feels like who I really am.  I have felt this way for a very long time, probably since I was 12 or 13.” I said

“But why?  Was it something we did or didn’t do when you were growing up?” My mom asked.

“Was it us keeping you in diapers when you were growing up?” My dad asked

“Honestly, I don’t think that it was anything you did or didn’t do.  I am so thankful for everything you two did for me growing up.  When I was actually wetting the bed I was so thankful that you were supportive and I didn’t have to wake up in a wet bed every morning”. I said

“I just feel like that kid that never grew up.  At this point I don’t care if people look and laugh at me in my toddler outfits, I am happy just the way I am” I said

“Well whatever makes you happy, just stay safe out there whatever you do.  I know people won’t understand you and people like you and I worry about you” My dad said

“Where are you heading to next?” Mom asked

“I think I am going to be heading along the gulf coast, then to Disney, then maybe key west, not really sure.

We continued to talk until about 11:00 pm when we all headed to bed, Mom and Dad were flying out in the afternoon.

I had dad help me out by following me to the car rental place to drop my fiat off so I could trade out after sending them back at the airport.

I bid my parents goodbye and after tearful hugs with my mom. I headed back to the car rental agency and dropped off the Tahoe and got in my little Fiat and drove back to the campgrounds and cleaned the cabin up, loaded stuff back into the RV, then hitched the Fiat to the back of the RV and headed out the next morning.    I spent the night in Mobile Alabama.

The next morning I got up and unhitched the Fiat and visited the USS Alabama and the maritime museum.  I stopped at some unique cafes and got a bite to eat. Before heading over to the mobile bay.  I must say the sunset was simply breathtaking.

Mobile was a simple stop over.  The next morning I headed out  towards Panama City beach where I stayed for 2 nights, and then onward towards Orlando.  I decided to stay at Fort Wilderness for close to 2 weeks.

I spent 6 days at Disney, seeing the new Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, Epcot, the magic kingdom, Hollywood studios, even the water parks too.  I had to dress as an adult to go to the water parks.  After being 24/7 for several months it was really hard to not wet myself at the water park.

I then decided to do Universal Islands of Adventure, the Wizarding world of Harry Potter and Universal studios.

By the time I was done with the theme parks in Orlando I was looking for a break from traveling.  I had placed a call to my assistant / travel agent and got him on a project while I was in New Orleans and he had gotten it all worked out while I was in Orlando.

It was now end of September, I had been on the road for over 4 months at this point and was tired.

I had worked my way down towards key west for several days before my next adventure.  I arrived in Key West and found a place to park and basically just chilled for a week.  I sat at the local beach bar and slowly nursed an alcohol drink, then a virgin drink, ate some, and then repeated the process.  I’d go to the beach and relax with a cooler full of drinks and just sit in my lawn chair and read a book or listen to music.
